JEWELRY CARE
TOUCHED jewelry is crafted from 925 sterling silver. This means the quality of the material itself will never deteriorate. Below you’ll find answers to common questions regarding jewelry care.
925 sterling silver is a precious natural metal. One of its inherent characteristics is that it may darken over time. This darkening, caused by oxidation, is completely reversible and, in fact, confirms the authenticity and quality of your silver piece.
How quickly a silver piece oxidizes depends on several factors, including how it is stored, your skin’s chemistry, exposure to humidity or air, and overall care.
Since oxidation is a natural and expected process, here’s how you can slow it down:
a) Store it properly
Keep your jewelry in closed boxes or pouches to protect it from air exposure and scratches. Avoid storing it on open trays or dishes. Limiting contact with air reduces the likelihood of oxidation.
b) Avoid humidity
Store your jewelry in a dry environment. Bathrooms, for example, are not ideal due to moisture levels.
c) Keep it clean
Contact with water, perfumes, creams, seawater, or pool chlorine is often unavoidable.
After exposure to any chemicals:
- Wash your jewelry with warm water and mild hand soap
- Gently clean it using a soft baby toothbrush or a delicate brush
- Dry it immediately with a lint-free cloth or paper towel
As mentioned above, the first step is washing with warm water and mild soap, gentle brushing, and immediate drying. If oxidation is more intense or the piece hasn’t been cleaned for a long time, we recommend a natural cleaning method using simple household ingredients, like vinegar and baking soda.
Additionally, every TOUCHED package includes a complimentary high-quality polishing cloth infused with cleaning agents. You can use it whenever your jewelry needs a quick refresh.
Note: The above cleaning methods are not recommended for jewelry featuring precious or semi-precious stones.
Gold’s reputation for durability is not a myth, it is a fact. However, it remains a precious metal and still requires proper care.
Try to minimize exposure to beauty products and chemicals. If your gold jewelry has been exposed to any of these:
- Wash with warm water and mild hand soap
- Gently brush with a soft baby toothbrush or delicate brush
- Dry immediately with a lint-free cloth or paper towel
You may also safely use the special polishing cloth included in your TOUCHED packaging.
