100% pure gold translates to 24 karats. Due to its very soft composition, it is impossible to use in the manufacture of jewelry. For this reason, we add other metals to pure gold that help in its hardness, thus creating gold alloys of 14, 18 & 22 karats respectively.

For the same reason. Pure 1000-grade silver is a very soft metal, so it is very difficult to use in jewelry making, beyond very specific techniques.

The karats of gold are what determine the value of each piece of jewelry. The lower the karats, the more economical it is, the more karats it has, the more qualitative and valuable it becomes. As can be easily understood, 9-karat jewelry cannot have the same duration in color and quality as a 14, 18 or 22-karat jewelry and the reason is that gold is much less in percentage than foreign metals (only 9 out of 24 parts). Low karats also make it particularly vulnerable to oxidation, and in general to its resistance over time. A gold piece of jewelry with a low gold content cannot have the benefits of the metal. This involves a fine layer of gold placed exclusively inside the engraving, on surfaces that sit below the main surface of the piece. Because the plating is protected within these recessed areas, it offers durability and longevity over time.
